Driveways for Stockport homes, including the sloping drives, steps and drainage challenges that come with the town’s hills.
Local driveway installers for Stockport
Stockport town centre is about 6 miles from our base in Sale, inside our 20-mile service area. That area also takes in Cheadle, Gatley, Heald Green, Cheadle Hulme, the Heatons, Reddish, Edgeley, Bramhall and Hazel Grove. Much of Stockport is hilly. Sloping drives, steps up to the front door and water running towards garages are all common. Those jobs need more planning than a flat drive.
Stockport has a mix of Victorian terraces, large semis in areas such as the Heatons, and interwar and modern homes in Cheadle and beyond. Dropped kerbs and planning here go through Stockport Council.
Stockport driveway work we can help with
- Sloping drives in tarmac or resin-bound, with a channel drain at the bottom
- Block paving for grip on moderate slopes and a traditional look
- Steps, levels and retaining edges where the garden is higher or lower than the road, see groundworks
- Replacing failed drives that have sunk or cracked because the original base was too thin
Sloping-site checks for Stockport drives
- Falls and water: on a slope, water always ends up at the bottom. We plan where it goes, usually a channel drain or soakaway, so it does not reach the garage or the house. See drainage.
- Gradient and grip: very steep drives limit which surfaces are sensible. We will be straight with you about what will last.
- Dropped kerbs: apply to Stockport Council for new or wider crossings.
- Retaining edges: where a drive is cut into a bank, the edge must hold the ground behind it. That is groundwork, not just surfacing.
Stockport town centre is about 6.1 miles in a straight line from our base on Marsland Road, Sale, inside our 20-mile service area. Council for dropped kerbs and planning here: Stockport Council. Postcodes: SK1–SK5, SK7, SK8 and parts of SK6.

Driveway questions from Stockport homeowners
Do you cover all of Stockport?
Yes. The whole of Stockport borough is inside our 20-mile service area: Stockport town centre (about 6 miles), Cheadle, Gatley, Heald Green, Cheadle Hulme, the Heatons, Reddish, Bramhall, Hazel Grove, Bredbury, Romiley and Marple.
Our Stockport drive is steep. What surface should we choose?
For steep drives, surface grip and drainage are the key issues. Block paving and tarmac are common choices. Resin-bound can work on moderate slopes if it is specified correctly. We will advise after seeing the gradient.
Why has our old driveway sunk?
Usually the sub-base was too thin or poorly compacted, or water has been getting underneath. A new surface on top will not fix that. The drive needs digging out and rebuilding on a proper base with the drainage sorted.
